WHAT DOES THE DATA SAY?
U.S. Census Bureau

It is the belief of The Equity Project that students who have no hope for success in school, become more and more discouraged as they make their way through the educational system. They lose interest, fail classes and do not have a champion to encourage them to stay in school. The statistics speak for themselves. According to the Business Insider, 27.6% of students drop-out of high school because they are failing too many classes, 25.9% are bored, 20.3% see no relevancy to life and 17.7% believe that no one cares about them. (www.businessinsider.com) Hope changes these numbers. The Equity Project believes that all students deserve to experience success in school. Our strategies and support are aligned to make sure every student succeeds. Our work is based on the fact that we refuse to leave anyone behind. Hope is something every student should own. Hope for a future with choices.
Our Programs
The Equity Project has been formed to support low income, under-performing public or charter schools to increase student achievement. We rely heavily on the work of Hattie, Marzano, Chapman, King and others who have led the way in researching and teaching how to purposefully change the way we teach so that all students are successful. All of our services are free to schools.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
We offer professional development on a multitude of best practices to include, but not limited to: deconstructing standards, writing/defining learning targets/objectives, purposefully using data to make a change in student outcomes, data digs using state and/or district data, AVID strategies – managing student behavior, lesson design, grouping, academic feedback, PBIS system implementation and vocabulary instruction. We can also tailor design a PD day for your staff depending on your needs. Our professional development sessions are hands on sessions with teachers taking away usable strategies for their classrooms. We are all teachers at the Equity Project. We get the need for useful professional development days. We will also offer follow-up visits for any teacher who may need additional support. |
COACHING
We offer instructional coaching, based on research proven best practices. We also align our coaching to the state Teacher Effectiveness rubric. Having observed well over 1,500 lesson in every content area including elective classes, we have the expertise to guide teachers in improving their work in the classroom, which ultimately, benefits students. Our work with teachers has increased teacher effectiveness and raised student achievement. Even exceptionally gifted teachers have grown through our work with them. We commit to conversation, relationship building, and feedback that is specific, timely and meaningful for teacher growth. Weekly visits by a consultant will facilitate this process. |
STRATEGIES
Equity Project will come alongside the school administrators and teachers to develop a plan for implementation of two specific research- based high impact strategies. These strategies have current data to support their effectiveness in increasing student achievement. Once a plan is in place, the consultant will make regular visits to the school to support the implementation of the strategies. Bi-weekly data collection of student performance will track the growth of students and help determine next steps of implementation. Success will be measured by pre and post state growth data. The work will take place through-out the school year. |
